RESEARCH POSITION IN ECONOMICS/FINANCE
ESADE Business School – Ramon Llull University invites applications for a research position at its department of Economics, Finance and Accounting. We are seeking highly motivated candidates at the level of MSc or (final stages of a) PhD to be part of a highly dynamic research environment. The researcher will join the ESADE Research Group in Economics and Finance (GREF), collaborating with its leading scholars and engaging in cutting-edge research.
The successful candidate will work closely with professors Vicente J. Bermejo (ESADE) Martí Guasch (ESADE) and Joan Farre-Mensa (University of Illinois Chicago) on a project analysing the economic and regional effects of the 2022 Ley de Emprendedores (Spanish Startup Law).
Project description:
This research project seeks to generate new scientific evidence that enhances the design of public policies to promote entrepreneurship and economic growth. Specifically, it focuses on evaluating the impact of the Spanish Startup Law (introduced in December 2022) on different economic outcomes. The project will employ state-of-the art empirical methodologies and will triangulate multiple corporate, financial, and economic (proprietary) data.
The project, which received competitive funding from the I+P FECYT call, is a joint initiative with Empresa Nacional de Innovación (ENISA) and benefits from confidential access to their data.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will actively work with the group of researchers to generate highly impactful academic research (journal publications) in the field of economics and finance, and economic reports and presentations to transfer scientific knowledge into industry.
The main responsibilities will include:
- Prepare and maintain databases
- Conduct comprehensive literature review on relevant topics
- Analyse data
- Prepare and disseminate results: preparation of academic papers and industry presentations and reports
- Participate actively in the departmental research activities at ESADE
Profile requirements:
Candidates must hold an MSc in Economics/Finance/Data Science (or similar) or a PhD in Business/Economics/Finance. The candidate should demonstrate previous research experience and, ideally, exposure to the field of financial economics.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills are essential, including proficiency in advanced statistical software (e.g., Stata, R and/or Python). Proficiency in Spanish is not a requirement for this position.
What we offer:
This is a full-time position based at either Madrid (ESADE campus) or Barcelona (ESADE Sant Cugat campus), with an option for remote work elsewhere in Spain. The contract duration is flexible, ranging from 12 to 24 months and the salary will be competitive and in line with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The contract will also meet the candidate’s profile (either pre-doc or post-doc positions can be accommodated). There are no teaching obligations.
The starting date for the position is negotiable, with a preference for the earliest possible availability.
