About the Role

The Department of Economics at City St George’s, University of London is seeking to appoint up to two outstanding academics as Lecturer (Grade 6/7). Candidates should have the commitment and capability to produce world-leading and internationally excellent publications, attract research funding from external bodies, engage with non-academic stakeholders, create pathways to impact, as well as deliver excellent quality research-led education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Additionally, successful candidate(s) will support, supervise and mentor students and undertake administrative duties at various levels.

Applicants should have a PhD in Economics or a cognate field at the time of appointment, a clear research agenda paving the way for submission for future REF exercises, and substantive plans for external grant applications. We welcome applications from all major fields in Economics and Finance.

The Department of Economics is part of the School of Policy and Global Affairs, an internationally excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions. It is home to about 2,500 students and over 100 staff in three departments (Economics, Sociology and Criminology, and International Politics).

The Department of Economics is a leader in research and education, with expertise in microeconomics, behavioural economics, public economics, macroeconomics, and financial economics. Over 90% of our research output and over 85% of our research performance are rated as internationally excellent in the last REF exercise. We conduct policy-relevant research in collaboration with national and international policy makers and practitioners. Our work is at the frontier of practice with over 80% of our impact rated internationally excellent. The department regularly hosts leading academic conferences and workshops on diverse, cutting-edge themes. We offer research-led education to 1,500 students, emphasizing graduate outcomes, transferable skills, employability, and social mobility. Our highly successful undergraduate programmes are complemented by a newly revamped suite of postgraduate courses designed to address the needs of modern society. Our growing PhD programme is part of the South-East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnerships, funded by the ESRC, providing students with exceptional research and professional development opportunities.
